The Developer

It all started when…

I got my first computer back in 1984(ish), a Sinclair ZX81 WITH 16K RAM PACK, wow. The ZX81 comes with a whole 1k as standard, that right, a whole 1024bytes, to do as you please with. Well, we may look back and laugh now, but that was a real computer, and it got me started me started in programming and what was to develop into a long standing affection for all things I.T.

I progressed from the Zx81 after a year or two, I felt restricted even with the 16k ram pack, also affectionately known as a ‘wobble pack’, so called because it wasn’t designed to well and would ‘wobble’ about, trouble was, the pack only needed to wobble a little bit, and that would cause the computer to hang, crash or restart, tale your pick. This was no laughing matter back then, because if it happened whilst loading or saving a program, that could be disastrous. It was said that to load even the smallest of programs through a ‘personal tape recorder’, you could start the load process, leave things to run, go an make a cup of coffee, paint a few rooms, come back, and it may, just may, have finished loading, but if the ram-pack wobbled, you would have to start all over again.
